Biography
Payton Fergus joined Tilford Dobbins & Schmidt, PLLC as a law clerk in August of 2022 and as an associate in May 2025.
An Evansville, Indiana native, Payton played football for four seasons and received his B.A. in history from Hanover College in 2018. He then moved to Louisville to pursue his legal career. He earned his J.D. from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law in 2023. As a law student, Payton helped kick-start the defunct Christian Legal Society chapter at Brandeis, serving as its President from for the academic years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023, while simultaneously volunteering at Access Justice and the Legal Aid Society.
Payton is licensed to practice in Kentucky Courts. He is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and Louisville Bar Association. As a called servant, Payton employs his knowledge and skill to assist those in need in numerous legal areas.
